The inspiration for ‘Hartford’ originated from the 40’s & 50’s vintage men’s shirts that designer ‘Yves Chareton’ found in Paris flee markets in the late 1970’s; From this he launched a range of Hartford mens shirts; they were an immediate success.

After this fledging start the Hartford clothing company grew into a full blown men’s collection - reinventing traditional clothing fashion with a modern contemporary style with a twist of unexpected. In 2000, persuaded by customer demand, Yves decided to create a Hartford Clothing womens line which enjoys the same cult following as men’s.
