This autumn will see the very welcome return of Betty Jackson mainline and the diffusion line Betty Jackson Two. There are gorgeous pieces arriving that will be definite must haves.

Unlike many fashion designers Betty Jackson has managed to stay in the fashion forefront since the launch of her label in 1981. She is still a mainstay of London Fashion Week - probably because her clothes bring so many layers of pleasure.

“If the colour excites”, she says, “and then you touch it and it makes you want to try it on, then you try it on and it’s a great fit, then you wear it and you get a great result, there’s a huge feel good factor”

Having been mentored by Zandra Rhodes as a fashion student, and then Wendy Dagworthy and Ossie Clark in early jobs, Jackson’s fashion aesthetic involves an indistinctive understanding of what a woman wants, and her philosophy is to blend simplicity of shape with current styles. Not everyone wants to follow trends slavishly, she says “but you want to know that you’re on the same page, so there’s always a nod to colour trend, a fabric, a look”. What’s more, a Betty Jackson piece is designed for multiple occasions. “ I hope I provide solutions rather than problems”, she says.
